About the Bachelor Program of Biotechnology and Food Nutrition

Bachelor Program of Biotechnology and Food Nutrition

With today’s rapid development in agriculture, biotechnology and food science have become one of the important disciplines that lead the global economic development and are required in a wide range of fields. Modern agricultural biotechnology, which integrates genomics, genetics, high throughput data analysis, and newly developed technologies, including phenomics and artificial intelligence, to cope with livestock production, crop breeding, food processing, and agricultural production management, is a multidisciplinary science with great potential. It is of critical importance to food security and safety caused by global climate change and population increase. The disciplinary of food and nutrition, which involves "food technology" and "food nutrition", covers professional food processing, food chemistry and food microbiology, so as to provide consumers with products that are nutritious, healthy, and of good food quality and safety; whereas it comprises basic nutrients in food and their physiological functions, as well as the nutritional needs of individuals in different life stages and how to coordinate disease treatment and nutritional care through dietary therapy.

The Program focuses on these two important core fields: Agricultural biotechnology and food nutrition, in hope of fostering new generation of talents in a cross- and inter-disciplinary fields.

To cultivate students' professional ability, enhance new knowledge of science and technology and cross-disciplinary concepts, and raise the awareness of internationalization, the Program has designed the curriculum in basic disciplines such as biotechnology, omics (including genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics), bioinformatics, food nutrition, food processing, and food chemistry. With the rich teaching resources from various departments of College of Bioresources and Agriculture, students are trained to be equipped with professional knowledge of genetic technology, precision breeding, smart agriculture, precision nutrition, food engineering, etc., as well as comprehensive literacy such as cross-disciplinary research and development concepts and international vision.
