Research Expertise: Gut Microbiology/Nutritional Medicine/Human Microbiome/Nutrimicrobiomics/Next Generation Probiotics
Prof. Wei-Kai Wu is a physician-scientist specializing in gut microbiology and nutritional medicine. His research journey into the human microbiome began in 2014 since his graduate program at National Taiwan University. Throughout this period, he played a pivotal role in establishing microbiome research infrastructures at NTUH, including a germ-free mice facility and a culturomics lab. Dr. Wu has published over 50 papers in prestigious journals such as Gut, Microbiome, Clinical Nutrition, npj Biofilms and Microbiomes, Communication Biology, Seminars in Cancer Biology…etc., contributing to an impressive H-index of 23. His research endeavors primarily focus on elucidating the intricate interactions between nutrition and gut microbiota, aiming to identify personalized biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the advancement of precision medicine. Moreover, Dr. Wu is actively engaged in exploring novel strains of next-generation probiotics with the potential to mitigate a spectrum of human diseases, including cardiometabolic diseases and cancers.
